COMMUNITY NEWS

  • NVADG is taking steps to help local pet owners prepare to evacuate with their pets during emergencies—Mark Thorp, head of community outreach, said volunteers will hold workshops, safety fairs and presentations to teach residents how to plan for both small and large animals.  Action News Now
  • A new farm stand has opened at Chico State’s University Farm and offers fresh produce including sweet corn, seeded watermelons, and cantaloupe as well as colorful bouquets — it is located at 311 Nicholas C. Schouten Lane — and is open Wednesday through Friday from 8 a.m. to noon.  Action News Now

BUSINESS NEWS

  • CapRadio Board approved ending its management of NSPR and KHSU and will transfer control to their license holders—Chico State and Cal Poly Humboldt—by November with four months of transition funding. The decision comes amid financial shortfalls and raised concerns among staff and union representatives about cuts to local news resources.  North State Public Radio

CRIME NEWS

  • A $50,000 reward remains available for anyone with information on the 2021 murder of Tyler Dickson, who was fatally shot while sleeping in a tent at Bidwell Canyon Campground, and authorities say a member of his out-of-area camping group may hold key details—investigators continue to follow leads.  Action News Now
  • On June 28, deputies in Magalia stopped a vehicle, discovered a loaded shotgun, and arrested Arthur Ascheman (on post-release community supervision) for firearm and supervision violations, booking him into Butte County Jail.  Action News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Chico's Mid-Town Post Office will offer temporary mail pick-up and retail services for Hamilton City customers beginning Tuesday, July 8. The location at 141 West 5th Street will be open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.—customers must show proper photo ID since the Hamilton City Post Office remains closed due to fire damage.  Action News Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • Medical residents have begun serving Butte County through two residency programs—one in Family Medicine and one in Community Psychiatry. The Family Medicine Residency Program, launched this summer with Enloe Health, provides primary care in both outpatient and hospital settings—while Community Psychiatry residents, who began training at UC Davis, start their second training year.  Action News Now
