- ➤ Chico Marketplace launches its annual Back to School Back to Giving supply drive today in partnership with Results Radio, mall retailers and community businesses to collect donations for local students. Donors may enter a contest for a $500 gift card with each donation—supplies will be distributed by teachers and counselors. KRCR
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Chico police continue to investigate the disappearance of Ronda Lynn James, who was reported missing in 2015 from Chico and last seen in Fort Walton Beach (she is 57 years old with black hair and brown eyes and a family member said she may have moved to New Orleans) and urge anyone with information to call them at 530-897-4911. - ➤ On Monday, July 7, police investigated a deadly shooting at an alternative homeless camp on Eaton and Cohasset Roads after receiving a call around 10:30 p.m.—officers have not arrested any suspects and asked those at the camp to leave. Action News Now
- ➤ Chico police recovered a stolen high-end bicycle valued at $4,000 and arrested 28-year-old Branden Thurston on felony charges after surveillance footage linked him to the theft on June 28—officers located the bike on July 6 and returned it to its owner. KRCR
- ➤ On Sunday, July 6, Cal Fire officers arrested Naudia Velasquez, a 25-year-old Chico woman charged with selling illegal fireworks when they found 60lbs on her property — she is now held without bail for violating the California Health and Safety Code. KRCR

- ➤ California State Parks began cleanup at Bidwell Mansion State Historic Park after a December 11 arson fire damaged the historic site; workers removed exterior debris while monitoring for hazardous materials & air quality. Officials said the work will last about three weeks & set the stage for a public engagement process on the park’s future. Action News Now
