Middle Bidwell Park is hosting 200 to 500 goats from Capra Environmental Services Corp. to control invasive plants and reduce wildfire risks.

The goats work in areas enclosed with electric fencing and warning signs—and a herdsman with guard dogs monitors them while visitors are asked to keep a safe distance.

Between 200 and 500 goats will graze Middle Bidwell Park to reduce fire fuel loads by eating an acre of invasive plants each day.

The goats, provided by Capra Environmental Services Corp, will be kept behind electric fencing & watched by a herdsman and guard dogs while some trails are temporarily closed for public safety.

Chico's Matador Motel—the once-dilapidated property on the Esplanade—will be cleaned up starting Monday as new Los Angeles-based owners plan to transform it into a boutique hotel.
