- ➤ Chico is hosting a food distribution event by the Community Action Agency of Butte County to ease food insecurity as federal cuts threaten SNAP and CalFresh. The agency expects around 400 people to attend and volunteers will load cars+ask for household size information to set food amounts while stressing cash donations for needed supplies. KRCR
- ➤ Beyond Golf Chico at DeGarmo Park is nearing Phase One completion and will open this fall with a nine‐hole, three‐par outdoor course, a putting green and a youth learning course — a $2 million project developed by CARD and Beyond Golf that offers free play for youth under 18. Beyond Golf plans to start Phase Two within two years after Phase One opens. KRCR

- ➤ A carjacking in Berry Creek on June 19 led officers to arrest three people—Eduardo Gonzalez, Jose Torres Duran, and Giovanni Gonzalez Rojas—after suspects who pretended to be police forced a victim from a U-Haul and later officers found 17 guns and 600 pounds of marijuana at related locations while the investigation remains active. - ➤ A Chico woman, Cassandra Roller, was arrested and booked into Butte County Jail by Oroville police—she allegedly used a drawstring to strangle a permanently disabled patient in a wheelchair at Oroville Hospital on Wednesday and is charged with attempted murder. Action News Now
- ➤ Chico Police responded on Thursday to a report of a suspicious package at Congressman LaMalfa’s office in Philadelphia Square; after the Bomb Squad and Hazmat Team arrived—evacuating nearby buildings—and officials examined the package, they determined it contained soiled diapers with a note and white powder later identified as sugar. - ➤ Chico Police arrested 34-year-old Missael Ledezma after a woman was taken against her will at knife point around 7 a.m. on Thursday near E. 20th Street and C Street—she managed to escape with a minor laceration while he now faces charges for kidnapping, false imprisonment, domestic violence, criminal threats, DUI, and brandishing. - ➤ Crews began cleaning Sycamore Pool at Bidwell Park on Wednesday to remove sediment carried by runoff from the 2024 Park Fire; the pool remains closed today to protect salmon spawning areas — officials note that sediment effects may last for up to five years. KRCR

- ➤ Crews in Chico are constructing a new 100-foot bridge—complete with bike lanes and sidewalks—to connect two sections of Notre Dame Boulevard over Little Chico Creek. The project is part of a significant local investment in infrastructure and will be finished by December. Action News Now
