COMMUNITY NEWS

  • More than 50 motorcyclists rode on July 19 from Butte County to Sierra Steel Harley-Davidson on Mangrove Avenue in Chico for the 9th annual Christmas in July Toy Run — they donated to support those in need.  Action News Now

CRIME NEWS

  • Edgar Cisneros was arrested by CAL FIRE law enforcement near Oro Quincy Highway after starting a vegetation fire using a propane stove—he fled the scene and admitted his actions to investigators.  Action News Now
  • On June 29, CAL FIRE crews responded to a fire on Sam Lynn Way in Palermo that burned about one acre when evidence showed that 50-year-old Raymond Wilson from Stockton set the blaze after a heated dispute, and on July 17, following an investigation, he was arrested—he waived his right to booking in Stockton and was transported to Butte County Jail on charges of arson to wildland and use of an accelerant with bail set at $150,000.  Action News Now
  • CAL FIRE Law Enforcement arrested Jiaxin Deng on July 13 for a vegetation fire at an illegal marijuana cultivation site in Oroville caused by overloaded wiring and he admitted owning the property before being booked into Butte County Jail.  Action News Now

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Local farmers at the Chico Farmers Market say the heat burns crops like peppers and tomatoes, and Michael Cross from Covering Ground Farms said last summer's heat slowed the growth of pumpkins and greens. Another farmer noted that milder conditions help peaches ripen well+ farmers are seeing that some produce is hurt while other fruits benefit from warmer days.  Action News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • California State Parks said crews are removing debris—some possibly unsafe—from Bidwell Mansion as part of cleanup efforts expected to finish by the end of July. Once cleanup is complete, engineers and historians will study the site—then begin a multi-phase public recovery plan to guide the mansion’s long-term restoration.  Action News Now
