- ➤ Construction has begun on the Chico Aquatic Center on Garner Lane in North Chico and a ceremonial groundbreaking is set for August 21 — the $30 million project will open in fall and feature a competition pool, a recreation pool, a multi-generational pool, diving boards, and slides. - ➤ One year after the Park Fire destroyed 209 single-family homes in Cohasset and Forest Ranch, faith-driven volunteers led by Rev. Philip Zabell began rebuilding a new home for a couple using only volunteer labor. Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chico is hosting the group and they will finish construction by Friday — providing a fresh start for those affected. Action News Now

- ➤ A 13-year-old faces hate crime charges after a group of four teenagers reportedly attacked a 31-year-old international student at Chico State on July 15—police say he was arrested on July 22 near City Council Chambers and the case is set for a hearing on July 30. Action News Now
- ➤ On July 15 a 13-year-old Chico teen attacked a 31-year-old international student at Chico State by using racial slurs and striking him with a branch—he was charged with a hate crime in Butte County Juvenile Court and faces further proceedings on July 30. KRCR

- ➤ Chico State College of Agriculture students Luis Gomez, Lindsey Dillon and Karla Ahumada earned third place in the IFAMA Student Case Competition in Brazil last month—competing with 15 other teams from around the world after a year of preparation and presenting to the event's top leaders. - ➤ After the Park Fire burned 429,603 acres in 2024, local donations of over $300,000 helped restore Chico State’s Big Chico Creek Ecological Reserve—funding the installation of 1,700 sediment retention structures to protect water quality. In partnership with the Mechoopda Indian Tribe of Chico Rancheria, the Reserve developed a watershed-scale plan to reintroduce native fish and elk and improve future wildfire management. KRCR
