  • A new Butte County Grand Jury Report labeled Palermo a community in crisis as residents faced floods reaching 2 to 4 feet deep on Lone Tree Road and failing wells that left homes with little clean water. Locals reported damage to property and crops, and the report estimated repairs to cost between $3M+ and $11M+ in the area.  Action News Now
  • A new nine-hole par-3 golf course in Chico is nearing completion and may open to the public early fall. Beyond Golf manager Matt Carton said crews added fish and organic dye to the lake and will install overhead lights for play until 11 p.m.—no further delays are expected.  Action News Now

CRIME NEWS

  • A Chico man, Monty Gobiel, 40, was arrested after burglarizing Chico Bike & Board on Tuesday morning — stealing $4.4K in merchandise — and was caught at Humboldt Avenue after he tried to flee.  KRCR
  • BINTF and Special Enforcement Unit agents arrested 37-year-old Juan Antonio Medina in Chico on Thursday—seizing nearly one pound of fentanyl, methamphetamine, a loaded handgun and drug trafficking tools during a search that extended to additional sites in Willows.  Action News Now
  • Chico teen shooter Savaun Marquez Fairbanks, 19, faced adult court on Wednesday nearly three years after a September 2022 house party shooting that injured five—he was charged with five counts of attempted murder and will reappear on August 13.  Action News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Petersen Memorial Drive in Lower Bidwell Park reopens today after a major rehabilitation project by the City of Chico. The work resurfaced the road—stabilized pavement edges, improved parking lots, and added new striping and signage—while protecting mature trees and parkland.  Action News Now
  • Tehama County supervisor Greg Jones said that one year ago the Park Fire burned over 429,000 acres in Bidwell Park, destroyed more than 700 structures, and took 64 days to contain. He explained that the fire forced more than $1 million into road repairs + the county is still waiting for state reimbursement while rising insurance costs add to local economic fears.  KRCR
