Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 25th of July.
Good morning, Chico.
🏘️ Community
A Chico family has moved back into their rebuilt home following the 2024 Park Fire, using fire-resistant materials and defensive upgrades like vaulted ceilings + a larger wine storage room.
The Fell family joins five other local families and credits neighborly bonds for making the rebuild effort worthwhile.
💼 Business
Chico's Unwined Kitchen and Bar earned national recognition and will be featured on America's Best Restaurants in August (the online roadshow will showcase its new American cuisine, brunch favorites, and wood oven pizzas with live music).
🎭 Culture
The Chico Arts Center has signed a lease for additional spaces in the historic Southern Pacific Railroad depot — spaces that have been vacant for years — and will renovate them into a Digital Arts Lab and Annex Gallery.
🌲 Environment
A groundbreaking ceremony was held for the Oroville Wildlife Area Recreation Improvement Project — a $8M plan to add a riverside trail connector, a 25-site campground, a new boat launch and landscaping near the Feather River.
The project is set for year-end completion and will open early next year.
🏈 Sports
After winning 2 to 1 (despite controversy) against Nevada yesterday, Live Oak Little League softball team clinched a spot in the Little League World Series in Greenville next month.
