BUSINESS NEWS

  • A new climbing gym is scheduled to open in Chico in early 2026 and will provide local climbers with a dedicated indoor space.  Action News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Phi Kappa Tau at Chico State is on probation for one year after a hazing investigation showed a fraternity member licking a dead rat—new restrictions include changing the president, stopping new member recruitment, and releasing all newly pledged members. The university will review the fraternity's status in Spring 2026.  KRCR
  • McManus Elementary School in Chico is nearly finished with a $34 million, three-year renovation project funded by Measure K that built five new school buildings and modernized older ones. The final phase will be completed before school starts—North Avenue is getting a new parking lot while portable classrooms are removed to add eight kindergarten and transitional kindergarten classrooms.  Action News Now
  • When students return next month, they will see that West Valley High School updated the insulation + flooring in both gymnasiums ahead of the new school year.  Action News Now
  • Anderson High School replaced its track surface earlier this summer in preparation for the 2025-26 school year. The upgrade was completed in time for the new academic year to begin.  Action News Now
  • Pleasant Valley High School will not use its fire-damaged building for classes this school year because repairs are still underway, but the district has added four portable buildings to offer art courses to students. Cleanup costs have already exceeded $1 million and insurance is funding the portables as the investigation continues.  Action News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Caltrans District 3 is starting a pavement improvement project on Highway 32 near Forest Ranch today to repave the road, upgrade guardrails, and refresh pavement markings and signs. Crews will work from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays until mid-September — motorists may face delays with wait times of up to 20 minutes.  Action News Now
