COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Butte County Sheriff's Office will invite community members to join National Night Out at Durham Community Park—located at 1847 Durham-Dayton Highway— on Tuesday, August 5 from 5 to 7 p.m. to meet deputies.  Action News Now

CRIME NEWS

  • Brandi Jacobs appeared in Butte County court facing 39 animal cruelty charges after Oroville police arrested her last week and seized 38 living dogs (and a puppy's body) from her Fallbrook Avenue residence.  Action News Now
  • An Oroville man pleaded no contest in Butte County Superior Court Thursday to felony charges for assaulting his child's mother in front of their toddler—he violated a restraining order and struck her—and he remains in custody with sentencing set for August 28.  KRCR

CULTURE NEWS

  • Chico band Debajito will release their new EP “Entremundos” on August 5 — the five-track album mixes cumbia, hip-hop and afrobeats to share stories of migration, identity and resistance. The project was completed with Chico State students' help — their work on mixing captured the band’s vibrant, borderless sound.  North State Public Radio
  • Legacy Stage will hold its second annual Fringe Festival from August 29 to 31—this event will feature the world premiere of the horror musical 'Burn Ban' across four venues in Butte County. Tickets for Burn Ban and all-access Fringe Buttons are available now, and a full schedule will be released on August 8.  Action News Now
  • Today, the City of Chico gave $38,442 to 16 local arts projects after reviewing 19 applications. The funding—from the city's Transient Occupancy Tax—will support not-for-profit groups and boost local culture.  Action News Now

  • The City of Chico invites residents, business owners, and community stakeholders to a public workshop for the Downtown Chico Revitalization Project on Tuesday, August 12 at 6 p.m. at the City Council Chambers—attendees will review streetscape design ideas and give feedback to help make downtown safer and more inviting.  Action News Now
  • Butte County Supervisors received a final update on Tuesday about recovery efforts for the Park and Thompson fires, with debris removed from 455 of 457 affected properties and all public health hazards addressed before final sign-offs. Officials now focus on rebuilding as homeowners prepare to return & ensure their properties are safe.  KRCR
