- ➤ The Chico Area Recreation Park District will host Movies in the Park at DeGarmo Park on Friday, August 22, with a free screening of Wonka and family activities like bounce houses and face painting. - ➤ City officials held a feedback workshop Tuesday night to gather ideas for a downtown Chico project focused on improving safety and accessibility on Main and Broadway Streets. Officials will refine the layout over the next six to nine months and plan an additional meeting in the fall before seeking grant funding. KRCR

- ➤ Elizabeth Ann Dahl, 49, pleaded no contest in court on Tuesday to felony gross vehicular manslaughter after a June 1 high-speed chase on Highway 32 led to the death of 51-year-old Mia Gentry—her sentencing is scheduled for October 29. KRCR

- ➤ Gateway Science Museum received a $37,202 donation over two years from the Children’s Science Education Endowment Fund — part of the North Valley Community Foundation — to boost programs for K-12 students and support Chico State students running hands-on exhibits. - ➤ A new traffic signal and pedestrian crosswalk have been installed on the Esplanade in front of Chico High to improve student safety. The crossing replaced an older flashing beacon crosswalk and is ADA compliant—city officials said they will monitor its operation and adjust it as needed. KRCR
- ➤ Butte County supervisors agreed on a targeted treatment plan that combines routine maintenance with full restoration elements to address sediment buildup at the Five-Mile Basin in Big Chico Creek—county crews will start work immediately to complete the project by mid-October and lower the risk of catastrophic impacts during the rain season. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Butte County Public Health announced yesterday that samples collected in July from Big Chico Creek tested positive for E. coli O157—a dangerous strain that can cause severe illness, hospitalization, or kidney failure. Officials are monitoring the situation and advising caution to those who use the creek. Action News Now
