- ➤ Chico Area Recreation and Park District will host a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Aquatics and Recreation Center at 11:30 a.m. on August 21 at 13365 Garner Lane—land donated by philanthropists Ken Grossman and Katie Gonser and a $6 million grant making the project possible. Local contractor Slater and Son, Inc. is already working on the $30 million project. Action News Now
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Chico police responded to a street fight on Hartford Drive near Forest Avenue early Monday morning and found that two people were involved—one of whom went to a hospital with minor injuries—before closing the road for about two and a half hours until it reopened. Action News Now
- ➤ The Chico Police Department said that one confirmed victim sustained non-life threatening injuries — the suspect remains at large after a shooting on the bike path near Rio Lindo Avenue on Monday afternoon. Action News Now

- ➤ Business owners in Chico are relieved as students return from summer break and boost local spending. Chico Chai House, a downtown business opened less than a year ago, hosted group meet-ups with the Butte County Mobile Library and offered special drinks — efforts that helped overcome a summer slowdown. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Chico is asking a federal judge in October to release it from a settlement with unhoused residents because the deal limits its fire safety work on high-risk properties—this is its second attempt after a similar request was denied last year—Legal Services said the move delays needed action. - ➤ Chico City Council will revisit road renovation plans on South Park Drive alongside Bidwell Park today at 6 p.m.—community feedback raised concerns over accessibility, traffic, and cyclist safety.
