  • A deadly plane crash in Missouri claimed the lives of a Chico businessman—his wife also died on August 27th.  Action News Now
  • CAL FIRE crews responded Wednesday morning to fight the 1-4 Fire north of Deadwood Road along Highway 70 near Jarbo Gap.  Action News Now

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Woodzee Sunglasses in downtown Chico will close its physical store by the end of September as owner Luke Winter moves toward soft retirement—he plans to maintain the business online and craft custom sunglasses for brands. The move follows nearly a decade of service and comes amid a trend of local shops closing.  Action News Now

CRIME NEWS

  • Dustin Ponte (on court probation) was arrested and booked into Butte County Jail after police discovered a loaded handgun and an extended magazine hidden inside a fishing flotation device during a traffic stop.  Action News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Butte College announced enrollment for Fall 2025 will reach 10,395 students — a 7% rise from Fall 2024.  Action News Now
  • Chico State University shut down its Langdon Engineering Center Tuesday night after heavy thunderstorms caused water to enter all three floors—Facilities Management and Services is now assessing the damage and beginning repairs.  Action News Now

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • CAL FIRE is preparing for fires caused by lightning strikes as thunderstorms move across Northern California — fire dangers are rising and teams will be dispatched if conditions worsen.  Action News Now

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Crews finished clearing debris around the Matador Motel on The Esplanade in Chico & will paint the exterior later this week to match the original colors. A Los Angeles group bought the motel earlier this year & plans to convert it into a boutique hotel with modern amenities.  Action News Now
