COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, Azad's Martial Arts Center will host a free Tai Chi event at Downtown Chico City Plaza—giving the local community a chance to practice together starting at 8AM.  Action News Now

CRIME NEWS

  • Chico Police Department's Target Team arrested 40-year-old Tadashi Oto on August 29th—police said he saw him using narcotics in plain view along the East Lassen Avenue bike path.  Action News Now

ECONOMY NEWS

  • AAA reported that Chico's gas prices were the lowest seen this summer since 2021, with regular gas averaging $4.47 per gallon as of August 29, and drivers are advised to check prices before pumping over Labor Day weekend; Doug Johnson explained that refinery issues in Indiana & a 10% weekly increase statewide may push rates higher.  KRCR

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Chico State is scheduled to receive over $1 million in state funds for its agtech program, part of an 80 million allocation announced Friday, August 22 by Governor Gavin Newsom — a project aimed at helping small farmers use sustainable irrigation and improve grazing practices. The funds will expand local agtech tools to boost the agricultural sector.  KRCR

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Firefighters from the U.S.-Forest Service are battling 38 wildfires in Shasta-Trinity National Forest after thunderstorms sparked fires between Saturday and Tuesday. Officials are concentrating efforts to contain the blaze and protect the forest.  Action News Now
  • The Butte Environmental Council will host its 38th annual cleanup at Bidwell Park and Chico Creeks on September 20th from 9AM to noon. Community members can join and enjoy a pizza party and picnic at Hooker Oak Park after the cleanup—an event to care for local green spaces.  Action News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Officials have banned alcohol on the Sacramento River between the Irvine Finch Boat Launch and the mouth of Big Chico Creek over Labor Day weekend — from Saturday to Monday — to enforce safety along the water.  Action News Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Butte County Department of Public Health confirmed the first West Nile virus death of the season when a person in their 30s died from severe neurologic complications—residents are urged to reduce mosquito breeding areas ahead of Labor Day weekend.  KRCR
