COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On September 27th, the Soroptimist International of Bidwell Rancho will host its first-ever lobster feast at 2500 Estes Road in Chico with check-in at 5:30 p.m. and dinner served at 6:30 p.m.—tickets cost $110 and the meal will feature Maine lobster, artichoke, corn, tiger prawns, Louisiana hot links, new red potatoes, sourdough baguette, and drawn butter.  Action News Now

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Firefighters extinguished a vegetation fire that started in a construction lot near 5th and Walnut Streets early Tuesday morning at 4 a.m.—the blaze threatened a nearby apartment complex and burned a dumpster and a fence with no evacuations or road closures reported.  Action News Now

CRIME NEWS

  • Chico police took a man suspected of felony assault into custody yesterday after he led officers on a one-hour standoff near Teichert Ponds when he hid beneath heavy vegetation in the water – officers located him after he fled from them.  Action News Now
  • Kiano Sen Saechao, a 23-year-old Chico man, is facing a hate crime charge for damaging a reporter's camera on Sept. 4 during a racist incident at the Elks Lodge, causing over $2,500 in damage and setting bail at $25,000 with a court date on Sept. 11.  KRCR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The volunteer firefighter station in Berry Creek reopened today after the Bear Fire destroyed it five years ago, and the Butte County Board of Supervisors will recognize its completion—bringing a key service back for local residents.  Action News Now
  • Caltrans announced paving work on southbound Highway 99 today with one-way traffic control from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.—this follows Tuesday’s completed northbound work between Rock Creek and Cana Highway. Officials also scheduled lane closures on northbound for Sept. 11, 15 and 16 and advised drivers to expect delays.  Action News Now
  • Chico announced plans to distribute seven-day notices to residents at three homeless camps slated for clearance—first at Teichert Ponds where 14 people are camping and 18 camps have been abandoned.  Action News Now

  • Chico State’s Damian Garcia—who trained at Mammoth to build on his breakout season as CCAA Track Athlete of the Year and All-America honoree—is set to lead the Wildcats as they chase a 23rd consecutive CCAA crown and will run at the Kim Duyst Invitational in Turlock starting on September 13.  Chico State Today
