- ➤ Veterans Last Patrol, a non-profit supporting homebound veterans, is planning a Veterans Day tribute to award victory medals to WWII veterans at ceremonies held at veterans' homes and American Legion posts in California. The tribute marks the 80th anniversary of the war's end and urges veterans or their families to come forward before the event takes place. KRCR
- ➤ Organizers said sign ups for the Chico Parade of Lights remain open but nearly all 60 spots were filled as of September 18th—interested participants must apply soon. Action News Now
- ➤ Local businesses in Chico will host Barktoberfest on Saturday, October 11 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the alley between Hatchet Hangout and Ramble West Brewery to raise funds for the Butte Humane Society—wristbands cost $25 and include a beer ticket, axe-throwing access, raffle entries, a Best Dressed contest, and a Stein Holding Challenge. - ➤ The North State Symphony is celebrating its 25th season by launching a series of concerts led by Maestro Scott Seaton that feature works like Mendelssohn's Scottish-inspired piece and Strauss's Duet Concertino. The concerts will take place today at the State Theatre in Red Bluff—Saturday at the Cascade Theatre in Redding, and Sunday at Laxson Auditorium in Chico. Action News Now
- ➤ Chico Haunted Tours will begin in October with stops including the Naked Lounge, El Rey Theater and Stoble—each tour will last 90 minutes and run every Friday and Saturday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Ticket sales at $20 will support the Save the El Rey group’s efforts to restore the theater—local sponsor Ghost Poppy will help fund the event. - ➤ Marc Edson, founder and managing director of the Chico Theater Company, is retiring this weekend after a 22-year run. The upcoming show Curtain Up will honor his work — his life in theater — while Owen Hansen takes over as executive director. KRCR
- ➤ Chico Anime & Pop Expo will be held on October 18 at Silver Dollar Fairgrounds — the inaugural convention will feature celebrity voice actors like Sean Chiplock and Ryan Bartley, competitive tournaments, and cosplay contests for pop culture fans in Northern California. Action News Now

- ➤ Durham High School junior Jason Storey will march as a flag bearer in a U.S. Navy parade in Philadelphia on Oct. 13 to honor the Navy’s 250th anniversary. He is among about 300 Sea Cadets and said the program—backed by the local VFW Post 1555—is giving him leadership skills and a head start on medical training. Action News Now
- ➤ Chico State’s Community Legal Information Clinic moved into the new Behavioral and Social Sciences Building today to offer free legal support for students and local residents. Nearly 100 student volunteers work under four attorneys to handle issues from housing to consumer fraud—helping provide legal access in the community. Chico State Today
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ On September 18, 2025, California Olive Ranch in Artois hosted an event where officials from Chico State’s Regenerative Agriculture Program and the American Olive Oil Producers Association planted nearly 50,000 feet of hedgerows to foster biodiversity and safe habitats for pollinators—funded by a grant from the California Department of Food and Agriculture. The project was used for research and to promote sustainable, regenerative agriculture practices. KRCR
