COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Ronnie Zurita filmed a bobcat roaming in his backyard in California Park on Friday morning, which led neighbors to confirm additional sightings and keep a closer watch on their pets. Local officials note that bobcats rarely approach people, urging residents to remain cautious.  Action News Now
  • The Butte Environmental Council is hosting its annual cleanup event today – check-in starts at 8:30 a.m. at Hooker Oak Park, cleanup runs from 9 a.m. until noon and a pizza party will follow at 1 p.m.  Action News Now

CRIME NEWS

  • A TikTok account showing a person urinating at various parts of Chico State campus drew over 100,000 views and led the university to launch an investigation with police reviewing footage and asking for tips— the user has since stopped posting and apologized while students voiced mixed opinions.  KRCR

CULTURE NEWS

  • Chico filmmakers Kiel Kennedy and Nolan Ford will show their award-winning horror film McCurdy Point at The Pageant Theatre on Wednesday, Sept. 24 — the screening is sold out. The found-footage movie, which won the Crimson Screen Jury Award earlier this year, will mark their local debut after years of work in LA — a milestone for the pair.  North State Public Radio
  • The North State Symphony launches its season this weekend in Chico, Red Bluff and Redding with Mendelssohn’s Scottish Symphony. The orchestra will also present a live soundtrack for Michael Shapiro’s Frankenstein film in October — adding a unique Halloween touch.  North State Public Radio
  • The movie 'The Lost Bus' premiered in select theaters yesterday—it tells the story of Paradise bus driver Kevin McKay saving 22 children during the Camp Fire and will be screened next week in Chico, Oroville, and Red Bluff.  Action News Now
  • Bonfire's Big Night Out—an open-mic story slam for all ages—will take place on Friday, October 3rd at 7:30 p.m. at Laxson Auditorium, where host Bonnie Pipkin explained the event during an interview with Action News Now.  Action News Now

  • Crews from Butte County Public Works finished the Jordan Hill Road Maintenance Project near Concow and thanked residents for their cooperation (their patience was key).  Action News Now

  • On September 19th, the Red Bluff Spartans beat the Corning Cardinals 21—0 in Week Four of Under the Light’s Game of the Week—showing strong offense and defense. The team maintained control from start to finish as it clinched the shutout win.  Action News Now
