CULTURE NEWS

  • On Thursday, Sept. 25, 2025, theaters in Chico and Oroville were packed for the premiere of 'The Lost Bus,' a film that tells the story of Kevin McKay— the Paradise bus driver who helped 22 children escape the Camp Fire in 2018. The film continues to show this weekend in Chico and other cities and will stream on Apple TV+ starting Friday, Oct. 3.  North State Public Radio
  • This weekend in Chico saw residents enjoy a busy lineup of arts and music events as The Lost Bus film retold a Camp Fire rescue story with big stars, Modern Poetry combined spoken word and live music, and Into The Swamp offered a quirky theatrical twist—Rocktober Fest featured craft beer and live music on Friday and Saturday while a metalcore show at Naked Lounge will take place on Sunday.  North State Public Radio

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Butte County will host the Breathe Better Butte Fair in Oroville on October 1 at Riverbend Park from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. where the Air Quality Management District will launch its Lawn and Garden Equipment Voucher Program and introduce the Breathe Safe Butte Program that offers free HEPA air filters for low-income residents + free tacos will be served while supplies last.  Action News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Chico Police observed National Law Enforcement Suicide Awareness Day on September 26—acknowledging the stress on officers and listing crisis resources for those affected. This initiative highlighted the need for support among law enforcement and their families.  KRCR

HEALTH NEWS

  • Construction on Enloe Health’s new Cancer Center in Chico is more than halfway complete as crews install drywall and build treatment areas; the project began in May 2024 and is set to finish in May 2026 with patients starting treatments in August 2026. Despite a five-month delay from a city stop-work order, project managers are accelerating work—ensuring the state licensing process is met on time.  Action News Now

  • On Friday, September 26, the new Cussick Apartment Complex opened on W. East Avenue offering 75 housing units funded through a block grant for wildfire recovery—boosting local housing options.  Action News Now
