COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On September 29, True North Housing Alliance received $45,000 in donations from anonymous supporters - it is still trying to raise an extra $415,000 to cover the $2.5 million Howard Slater Navigation Center.  Action News Now

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Chico Ice Rink will open seven days a week from November through January and offers sponsorship packages (ranging from $500 to $20,000) to help local businesses gain brand recognition on signage and social media. Downtown sponsors can enjoy a discount package (covering dasher board ads, event tickets, and online mentions) as the rink prepares to attract thousands of visitors during the holiday season.  Action News Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • Chikoko is celebrating its 20th year with Beast — an exploratory fashion event that will take place at the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds on October 4 at 7:30 p.m. Attendees will enjoy wearable art, food, cocktails, and music from KZFR 90.1 while tickets can be purchased in advance or at The Bookstore on Main Street until sold out.  Action News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Michael Boeger, a Butte College trustee since 1985, will receive the Profiles in Leadership Award from the California Agricultural Leadership Foundation this fall during an awards dinner in Fresno on October 3. He has represented Area IV—Gridley for nearly 40 years and helped guide the college through bond measures and satellite expansion.  Action News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Chico appointed former fire chief Bill Hack as interim fire chief on Sept. 29 while Steve Standridge is on leave—Bill Hack brings 22 years of service to keep the department running smoothly.  KRCR
  • Crews from the City of Chico will clear homeless camps at three sites—per the Warren v. Chico Homeless Settlement Agreement—as part of court-ordered actions to address homelessness. City officials say the removals will begin soon and be closely monitored to meet legal guidelines.  Action News Now
  • Crews are using a crane to prepare Market Street for construction work—traffic control is in effect from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.  Action News Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • Vitalant is holding blood drives this October to support cancer patients during Breast Cancer Awareness Month—donors can give blood or platelets to help those in need and be entered to win a $10,000 prepaid gift card. Donations are scheduled at several sites across Northern California, including Chico.  Action News Now

SPORTS NEWS

  • Over the weekend, the Butte College Roadrunners lost a close 42—38 game to the Sequoias Giants, dropping their season record to 4—1. They will host Santa Rosa on October 11th after a bye week.  Action News Now
