COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Friends United in Rescue will host its first Save a Life Golf Tournament at Bidwell Park Golf Course on October 17 with check-in starting at 7 a.m. and a shotgun start at 8 a.m. The volunteer-run rescue took in 260 cats and kittens from January to August, found homes for 180, and will use funds raised to help pay for high medical and food costs for stray cats. - ➤ Butte College will host its third annual Harvest Festival on October 11 at its farm in Oroville, offering family-friendly events and market vendors selling pumpkins, gourds, and corn. Admission will be free — donations are appreciated and pre-sale lunch options will be available. Action News Now
- ➤ Stack Climbing and Fitness is being built in Meriam Park in South Chico and is expected to open in early 2026. Action News Now
- ➤ Meals on Wheels in Chico remains fully operational despite the shutdown affecting programs in other parts of California—clients in Chico, Durham, Magalia and Paradise will continue to receive daily deliveries. The service is funded entirely by donations and community grants. Action News Now
- ➤ Chico State will host the Wildcat Family Barbecue on Saturday, October 11 at Kendall Hall Lawn from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., where students, alumni, and locals will enjoy local food made by university teams and live music by JAMM and Decades. Tickets cost $25 and include a canned soda, and any extra food will go to the 530 Food Rescue Coalition — a move that supports local producers and student learning. Chico State Today

- ➤ Today, Art Etc. opens the Shadow Play exhibition at 256 East 1st Street in Chico to display works that explore light and shadow until November 30. - ➤ Bonfire Storytelling returns to Chico State’s Laxson Auditorium this weekend with eight off-the-cuff storytellers sharing humorous tales about getting caught—accompanied by live music from House Cats and a cross-promotion with Chikoko’s Beast. - ➤ Chico State's Center for Regenerative Agriculture and Resilient Systems, led by Professor Cindy Daley, is teaching local students and farmers regenerative methods that boost soil health and food security. - ➤ The City of Chico will appear in Sacramento court on October 6 to seek clarification on the terms of the Warren Settlement Agreement—its motion argues that the settlement should apply only to the eight homeless individuals originally involved.
