- ➤ Catalyst and Chico State’s WellCat Safe Place held their annual Flowers on the Creek event in Chico on October 8, where attendees dropped flower petals—honoring victims of domestic violence. Action News Now
- ➤ Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chico marks 100 years of worship and community service; it will hold its 100th anniversary celebration this Saturday followed by a Sunday service at 10 a.m. Longtime member Linda Sweet, who was confirmed in 1965 (at age 13), said the church remains a local cornerstone (growing from a modest West 16th Street building to its current home on Moss Avenue). - ➤ At Tuesday night’s City Council meeting, the North State Shelter Team proposed a pilot program to use tiny homes on church parking lots to house elderly homeless women. The Community Church of God on East Avenue is one of three churches involved (estimates show 40 to 80 women live on the streets nightly) and the group will soon submit its application. - ➤ Today, the Chico Air Museum displays the historic UH-1 Iroquois "Huey" helicopter—first flown in 1956 and used in combat during the Vietnam War. Action News Now
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ North State Public Radio will change management as CapRadio ends operations on November 30 and Chico State Enterprises takes over on Dec. 1—current employees must reapply for all positions, with applications due by October 12. The transition comes after staff received a 60-day notice of layoffs and marks a shift toward local control for the station. North State Public Radio
- ➤ Pleasant Valley High School will hold Viking Pride Night as a fundraiser soon; the event—having raised over $160,000 to date—will use the funds to give teachers extra supplies not covered by regular budgets. Action News Now

- ➤ The North State Shelter Team proposed a pilot program to place tiny homes in church parking lots to house elderly homeless women, as three local churches including the Community Church of God are weighing the project to help an estimated 40 to 80 senior women living on the streets.
