COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chico is celebrating 100 years of worship and will hold its anniversary celebration this Saturday followed by a Sunday service at 10 a.m.—longtime member Linda Sweet and Pastor Brennan DeForest described the milestone as a tribute to a lasting faith community.  Action News Now
  • The Downtown Chico Business Association will host several October events including ARTober Fest, the Art and Wine Walk, the Harvest Sidewalk Sale, and the annual Treat Street for local children on Halloween as Celeste Cramer shared on Action News Now at Noon—providing key details for the upcoming festivities.  Action News Now
  • Hazel is named as the Action News Now Pet of the Week—she is available for adoption at the Chico Animal Shelter at 2579 Fair St.  Action News Now

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Beyond Golf course in Chico is nearly done, with crews still building a chip-sealed temporary parking lot and an access road to the Esplanade—delays from waiting for dry weather. Crews have finished laying sod, planting trees, and working on the lake, and developers will later add a restaurant, an indoor simulator, an 18-hole putting course, and a food trailer serving alcohol.  Action News Now
  • Alex R. won over $337,000 from a $3.75 slot spin at Feather Falls Casino on October 9th—this win comes after a new slot machine was installed less than a week ago and produced its first major jackpot.  Action News Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Patrick Ranch Museum is hosting Autumn Fest every Saturday and Sunday in October from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.—offering pumpkin picking, a hay bale maze, rides on a pink tractor for breast cancer awareness, and tours of the historic Glenwood Farmhouse. A suggested donation of $6 for adults and $3 for children will support the museum's programs and upkeep.  Action News Now
  • Today, Reggie Watts brings his comedy show at Laxson Auditorium while local theaters run a romantic play and a musical adaptation of The Addams Family. Later this weekend, soulful jazz is featured at Argus Bar—Butte College hosts a free harvest festival on Saturday at 10 a.m. and a free haunted house event is held on Friday at 7 p.m.  North State Public Radio
  • Chico filmmakers Josh Funk and Dustin Vaught turned their award-winning short film into a feature-length horror comedy called The Fuzzies, which follows a group of friends who discover that a former children’s TV host's puppets have come to life. The film was shot in Butte County with local talent and will screen at the Pageant Theatre next week—sold out in just four days—with plans for streaming in 2026.  North State Public Radio

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Chico State unveiled a large fixture spelling Chico State outside the Student Services Center on October 9, 2025—just in time for Wildcat Weekend. University President Steve Perez said the $50,000 project supports campus improvements and boosts student pride.  KRCR
  • Chico State Enterprises will take over North State Public Radio’s management and operations by the end of the year after CapRadio ended ties due to financial issues—NSPR staff must reapply while programming remains unchanged.  Action News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A Camp Fire survivor in Paradise was frustrated when he received a $6,390 bill from the Paradise Irrigation District on Oct 9—officials said the fee covers the district’s obligation to pay the state to reserve water.  Action News Now
  • Berry Creek celebrated the grand reopening of Volunteer Fire Station 61, which was destroyed by the Bear Fire in 2020—bringing back a vital service. The station now helps keep the community safe and revives old traditions.  Action News Now
