COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Catalyst gave over 10,800 coffee sleeves to local coffee shops on Oct 13 as part of its Love Shouldn't Hurt campaign during Domestic Violence Awareness Month—hoping to raise local awareness of domestic violence.  Action News Now
  • Volunteers in Chico are preparing for National Collection Week as part of Operation Christmas Child, which will run November 17th to 24th. Nearly 5000 drop-off locations across California and the nation will collect shoebox gifts to help reach a goal of 12 million children in need.  Action News Now

CRIME NEWS

  • A community member recognized a disoriented woman from the Chico Police Facebook post—prompting a 911 call that led authorities to reunite her with her family after she was found wandering near Mission Ranch Boulevard on October 13th.  Action News Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Paradise Symphony will perform Fantasia Classics—a concert featuring pieces from the 1940 film Fantasia—at the Paradise Performing Arts Center on October 19th. Dr. Lloyd Roby and Board Director Laura Trenmer Voight joined Action News Now at Noon on October 13th to promote the upcoming event.  Action News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Gov. Gavin Newsom signed Assembly Bill 1175, reducing the CPA education requirement from 150 credits to a bachelor's degree (120 credits) to ease financial pressures. The law will take effect on Jan. 1 and Chico State revised its accounting curriculum in anticipation.  KRCR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • CAL FIRE lifted burn permit suspensions in Butte, Glenn, Tehama, Modoc, Trinity, and Shasta counties after rains and cooler weather reduced wildfire risks — letting local residents resume controlled burns safely.  Action News Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • Enloe Health held a free flu shot clinic Monday at Chico Elk’s Lodge to boost immunity before the holiday season. Officials said the vaccine was offered to anyone aged three and older (including pregnant and breastfeeding women) with a high-dose option available for adults (65 and older).  KRCR
