COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The new Paradise Community Center held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Oct 16—replacing the senior center destroyed by the 2018 Camp Fire.  Action News Now
  • Paradise Recreation and Park District held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 3 p.m. on Thursday for the new Community Center on Nunneley Road—an event that marked a significant addition to local recreation. The ceremony was the first step in opening the facility to the community.  Action News Now
  • CHICOSTART is preparing to host the annual GROWTECH fest at Sierra Nevada Big Room in Downtown Chico on November 6th and 7th—Eva Shepherd-Nicoll, the organization’s executive director, discussed the upcoming event with Action News Now anchor Linda Watkins-Bennett.  Action News Now

BUSINESS NEWS

  • As colder weather comes, The Fire Place Chimney Services sees its calls rise from 15–20 in summer to 500–600 per week—forcing the company to hire and train new technicians—so residents can inspect chimneys before dangerous fires occur. Local homeowners schedule inspections early each season to keep their fires safe and their homes secure.  Action News Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • Chico offers a weekend of cultural events with the ongoing Rocky Horror Show at Laxson Auditorium, a Solar Estates album release party at Argus Bar on Friday at 7:30 p.m., a Winchester Goose concert on Friday at 8 p.m., a Witch's Market with local vendors on Saturday at 10 a.m., and a Patrick Ranch Haunted House by Boy Scout Troop 31 running until Sunday.  North State Public Radio
  • Chico's 1078 Gallery will host the Mock Cat Gallery this weekend (featuring 200 cat-themed works) from 180 artists (local media confirmed).  Action News Now
  • The 5th Annual Witch's Market will be held at 1078 Gallery in Chico on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.—Action News Now reporter Nathan Espindula confirmed the event will feature market displays.  Action News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Butte-Glenn Community College District received four federal TRIO Student Support Services grants worth $5.4M that will enhance support for first-generation, low-income students and students with disabilities through academic year 2029—2030. Two grants will continue established programs while two new grants will expand services for 500 STEM students at the Chico and Glenn centers.  KRCR
  • Chico Unified School District will host a Kindergarten/Transitional Kindergarten Faire at McManus Elementary School’s Multipurpose Room on October 23 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.—families can meet school staff and learn enrollment requirements for the 2026-27 school year.  Action News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Butte County officials will hold a community outreach meeting on October 22 at 6:00 p.m. at Palermo Grange Hall — 7600 Irwin Avenue to discuss the Palermo Drainage Master Plan that will address persistent flooding, road closures, and water quality issues.  Action News Now
  • A Glenn County farmer expressed concerns that Proposition 50, which would change how congressional districts are drawn, could impact the agriculture industry—Congressman Doug LaMalfa discussed his views on the potential changes.  Action News Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • Governor Newsom joined 14 other governors to launch the Governors Public Health Alliance, which will use science-based public health guidance to strengthen emergency preparedness and communication. The alliance builds on existing state efforts and addresses past vaccine safety misguidance — local health officials expect it will help communities access trusted health information.  KRCR
