COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Chico Salvation Army is hosting its first-ever Harvest Festival Sale this weekend (all purchases support local causes) in the community. Action News Now
- ➤ The American Red Cross California Gold Country Region is recruiting 10 new Disaster Action Team volunteers from Butte, Glenn, Tehama and Plumas counties over the next 10 days—volunteers will respond to home fires and natural disasters like wildfires and floods with free training provided. - ➤ More than 100 locals met earlier this week at a community meeting to discuss redeveloping the former Chico Nut Company building on the Esplanade, with ideas for housing, flexible commercial space, and a community area. Developer Doug Ose is in escrow and will submit a proposal to the planning commission that may be approved, approved with conditions, or denied — with a decision possibly coming next year. - ➤ Chico-based band Solar Estates—after nearly a decade of work—released its self-titled debut album, which took three years to mix with analog effects. The band celebrated the record with a release show at Argus Bar and Patio held at 7:30 p.m. last Friday. North State Public Radio
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Mendocino National Forest announced job openings for the 2026 fire season with positions ranging from smokejumpers to helitack crew members at duty stations including Chico and Stonyford — applications remain open through October 29 and training begins in early spring for these full-time temporary roles. - ➤ Chico Regional Airport is hosting the third annual Take Off Chico open house today to show its work and get local support for bringing back commercial flights—airport manager Tom Bahr said the event aims to spark youth interest—to boost the city's chances with airlines. KRCR

- ➤ Chico’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s is happening today at Sycamore Field in Bidwell Park—participants will check in at 9 a.m, follow an opening ceremony at 10 a.m, and begin the 1- or 3-mile walk at 10:30 a.m to support the Alzheimer’s Association. Action News Now
