COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Honeybee Discovery Center will host its annual Show Me the Honey! Charity Casino Night at Four Corners Hall in South Chico on November 13 from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., where guests use gaming chips that convert winnings into raffle tickets donated by local businesses — tickets cost $95 and include appetizers, a drink ticket, and $10 in chips with funds supporting the Bee Mobile's development.  Action News Now
  • The Butte County Historical Society will host a free Trunk or Treat event on Friday, October 31 at the Oregon City School House—families can join the fun at 5 p.m. at 2100 Oregon Gulch Road.  Action News Now
  • Local residents near Railroad Avenue in Palermo were upset by trash, waste — and needles left behind after a homeless camp was removed from a county lot. County code enforcement manager Chris Jellison said cleanup will be addressed — though he did not give a timeline.  Action News Now
  • Jerry Olenyn reported that the Chico Certified Farmer's Market in Downtown Chico saw a decent turnout on Saturday despite cold and rainy weather (a sign of strong local support) as shoppers braved the dreary conditions (demonstrating community resilience).  Action News Now

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • CAL FIRE Butte County firefighters rescued an owl on Monday morning after a local resident alerted the Bangor Fire Station when its wing was caught in barbed wire— the team carefully cut the fence to free the bird and then handed it to a raptor rescue organization for treatment.  Action News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Chico State has named professors Angela Gapa, Amy Magnus, and Matthew Stone as recipients of the annual Lantis Endowed University Chairs — a competitive award that funds research on both global and local issues. Gapa will produce a Botswana documentary and museum exhibit, Magnus will study rural reproductive health care access, and Stone will research food tourism with funding from $20,000 to $40,000 to support travel and equipment.  Chico State Today

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Camp Fire Restoration Project will offer up to 500 free trees to residents from wildfire burn areas on November 8 at 5696 Brookview Way in Paradise—residents can pick up a tree between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. or join a group planting to restore local land.  KRCR
