COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Your Local Marketplace is hosting Apple Cider Day on November 16 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Lassen Traditional Cidery on Entler Avenue—local vendors will offer handmade gifts, cider tastings, free mini cookies, apple-themed crafts, live music, and free books from the Butte County Mobile Library.  Action News Now
  • CHAT opened its new location in Chico today to accept food donations amid the federal shutdown—this effort will help over 200 people avoid hunger.  Action News Now
  • Community members celebrated Dia de los Muertos at Chico Cemetery with music — food, and joy. The event has grown into a cherished local tradition that brings neighbors together.  Action News Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • California Regional Theatre will host 'A Charlie Brown Christmas' in Chico with shows running Thursday through Sunday. Evening performances start at 7:30 p.m. with doors opening at 7 p.m. and the Sunday matinee begins at 2 p.m. with doors opening at 1:30 p.m. — tickets cost $31 to $35 — and the production is led by Bob Maness with music direction by Chloe Brandi.  Action News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Gateway Science Museum in Chico is hosting the Life on the Edge exhibit through January 3—letting visitors explore extreme environments on Earth and in space using hands-on activities like coding a rover and spectroscopy. A special event on November 13 will feature Chico State professor Dr. Russell Shapiro discussing fossils from harsh habitats.  Action News Now

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Today, the Butte Fire Safe Council began a pile burning project in the Doe Mill area of Forest Ranch to improve wildlife habitat and reduce hazardous fuels—covering 90 acres in 10-acre increments—to lower wildfire risk.  Action News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Butte County Agricultural Commissioner Katharine Quist said that the walnut buying period started on Saturday at M and T ranch in Chico to help deter theft under the Nut Theft Ordinance—this measure followed the Chandler Walnut harvest and past incidents of walnut theft affecting the county's top commodity.  KRCR
  • Butte County is lighting government buildings green today as part of Operation Green Light, a national effort to support nearly 13,000 veterans by highlighting sites like the Veterans Services Office in Chico. The county also urges residents to switch outdoor bulbs to green to guide veterans to their earned benefits—county Veteran Services Officer Matt McCoy explained.  KRCR

  • At the record-breaking Northern Section High School Swimming Championships, Pleasant Valley High School won the Boys team title and Coach of the Year honor while Foothill won its first Girl’s team championship and Coach of the Year honor during the weekend—showing strong team efforts from both schools.  Action News Now
