  • Safe Space in Chico is asking for donations of tarps, ponchos, blankets, and other cold-weather essentials (items that can help keep people warm) as temperatures drop (the organization aims to protect those in need).  Action News Now

CRIME NEWS

  • Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey did not file criminal charges against the Barry R. Kirshner Wildlife Sanctuary after an investigation into animal welfare concerns found insufficient evidence, and officials at the California Department of Fish & Wildlife removed the animals and closed the facility.  Action News Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • Chico residents have a busy week with art, theater and live music events scheduled at local venues including 1078 Gallery, Theatre on the Ridge and several music spots. Today, the free 'Destroyed by Light' art show kicks off while the Town of Paradise hosts its Christmas Preview—local excitement grows for the weekend.  North State Public Radio
  • Local venues in Chico will host a series of concerts this November — featuring a mix of rock, blues, and more that will bring talented artists to the stage. Music fans can look forward to diverse shows that add vibrant energy to the community.  Action News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Butte College addressed food insecurity by offering $200 mini-grants to students whose SNAP benefits were delayed, and City of Chico Mayor Kasey Reynolds helped rally local fundraising after a football player's hardship was highlighted. The Roadrunner Hub saw about 200 students daily and over 650 grants were already distributed since Monday—showing strong community support.  Action News Now

  • Crews from the Chico Area Recreation and Park District are setting up an ice rink in Downtown Chico City Plaza ahead of next week's opening—expanded by 40% from past years to handle growing crowds.
