COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The North Valley Community Foundation announced on Monday it distributed 13 additional grants from its Food Insecurity Relief Fund to food pantries in Butte—Glenn—Tehama—Colusa—Plumas counties. Most organizations received $1,500 while one got $800, which brought the fund’s total awards to $47,300 since its launch on October 30.  Action News Now
  • Local Marine Will Caput organized a gathering in Chico on Monday to mark the Marine Corps’ 250th birthday—this event celebrated the service of Marines from past wars and offered a space to share stories and support transitioning veterans. Caput said the event helped reach out to veterans from Afghanistan and Iraq while reminding everyone of the Corps’ long history.  Action News Now
  • A local veterans group in Chico will celebrate the United States Marine Corps' 250th birthday at the Pour House—honoring both past and present Marines for their service. The event builds on a 2024 celebration that honored a 93-year-old Korean War veteran.  Action News Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local artists Sandy Fisher, Dolores Mitchell, Eva Farley, Jan Summerville and Kari and Ashley Brose will showcase their work at Chico's Art on Arbutus event this weekend—Fisher will present weavings, Mitchell will display oils, Farley will feature watercolors and acrylics, Summerville will exhibit mosaics and the Brose duo will offer jewelry.  Action News Now

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Action News Now updated average gas prices across Northern California on November 10th. The network will continue its weekly updates—keeping viewers informed about fuel trends.  Action News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Crews are rebuilding Paradise Elementary School after the 2018 Camp Fire destroyed its building, and recent updates show steady progress in restoring the campus (work is ongoing to complete essential repairs).  Action News Now
  • Chico State was named to the Princeton Review’s Guide to Green Schools for 2026—earned by its strong recycling programs, organic food options, and easy alternative transport. The University Communications team won five CASE awards for design, photography and video work—highlighting a cover story, a portrait of a senior and a student-led tailgate with more than 500 attendees.  Chico State Today
  • Chico State will break ground on a new Human Identification Laboratory Friday, November 14 at West Second and Cedar streets on campus. The 28,600-square-foot facility will triple refrigeration capacity and expand lab space to support forensic work for local, state and federal partners—its $55 million project includes a $3 million state budget bond allocation.  Chico State Today

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • PG&E will increase water flows on the North Fork Feather River for whitewater recreation; the Poe Reach will see higher rapids on the weekends of November 15 to 16 and November 22 to 23. The company warns that only skilled paddlers should navigate the Class III, IV, and V rapids—tubing is not safe due to strong currents and hidden obstacles.  Action News Now
  • The Wyandotte Creek Groundwater Sustainability Agency began a pilot project to clear nearly two miles of drainage ditches along Messina Avenue to Occidental Avenue in Palermo—this effort aims to prevent water problems when the wet season begins.  Action News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Voting is open for the I Voted sticker contest for Butte County's 2026/2027 election cycle, as the Clerk-Recorder Office received 164 submissions from local K12 students and selected six finalist designs (community members will vote until November 24 to choose the winning design).  KRCR
  • Chico’s Public Works Department started the annual leaf pickup program on Monday and it will run until January 1 to help prevent flooding. Crews move clockwise through the city over six weeks — residents must keep leaf piles under four feet away from gutters and bike lanes while commercial and multifamily owners use alternative disposal methods.  KRCR

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Butte College Roadrunners secured the league championship after defeating Sierra—American River beat Redwoods in separate matches. Sports director Matthew Kerr Wilson covered both wins that determined the teams' standings.  Action News Now
  • Downtown Chico’s ice rink, which opens Friday, will soon host a 3-on-3 hockey league for players 16 and older that begins next Tuesday and runs from 8 to 10 p.m. until Dec. 18—players must bring their own gear while free bleachers are ready for viewing. A co-ed broom-ball league will start next Wednesday at the same rink with games from 8 to 10 p.m. until Dec. 17—helmets will be provided and spectators can watch free.  Action News Now
