COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Chico Area Recreation and Park District expanded its annual Brunch With Santa to two days after repeated sellouts. The event took place on November 7 and will take place on December 6 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the CARD Community Center—featuring a full buffet, a letter-writing station and a sensory-friendly space for children in need.  Action News Now
  • The Chico Area Recreation and Park District will host its first-ever Gobble Games at the Chico Ice Rink in City Plaza on Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., and the event will feature three game sessions with free face painting, backwards skating, ping-pong ball races, and a three-legged race—with a turkey bowl between the Chico Fire Department and Butte County Sheriff's Office, live music from The Sun Followers, and a canned food drive for the Jesus Center—while regular skating will require admission as CARD aims to make it an annual holiday tradition.  Action News Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • Downtown Chico will host its long-standing Christmas Preview on Sunday, November 23 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Streets will be closed for safety—local vendors will offer unique sales, festive decorations, and heartwarming food and drink.  Action News Now
  • Chico Marketplace will host Santa Claus on Saturday, November 22 at 11 a.m. Families will see a horse and carriage parade outside the mall near Men's Wearhouse and a fun indoor workshop with dance and gymnastics performances near American Eagle.  Action News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On November 14, the Butte County Office of Education hosted the Poetry Out Loud competition with students from six local high schools reading two poems each; Moriah Henderson from Core Butte Charter School won first place and will advance to the state finals in Sacramento on March 8—9.  Action News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • South Park Drive in Chico will close intermittently this winter for tree maintenance that will include pruning, removals and hazard mitigation—temporary closures will affect park access for pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles while the city asks for public cooperation.  KRCR

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Bidwell Wildlife Rehabilitation Group said that avian flu has been confirmed in local geese and ducks after testing by the Department of Fish and Wildlife. The group advises residents to leave birds unable to fly alone—household pets should be kept inside and local animal control contacted if a sick bird is found.  Action News Now
