COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Chico Ice Rink is hosting its first-ever Gobble Games to invite local residents to enjoy a variety of activities — event details will be shared as they become available.  Action News Now
  • Chico Chai House will host its Winter Market on November 30 from noon to 4 p.m. at 1441 Park Ave—local artisans will offer farm-fresh goods, handmade jewelry, roasted nuts, complimentary tea tastings and live music by The Sun Followers while the first 10 attendees receive free mini tarot readings. The event will be canceled in heavy rain.  Action News Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Butte Film Festival returns to Chico for its third year to celebrate student filmmaking with a Western twist— it will be held at Meriam Park Barn on December 6 and 7 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.  Action News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On November 20, the California Community College Board of Governors granted Educational Center status to Shasta College’s Tehama Campus—Billy Miller, the Dean of Extended Education and North State Together, explained the approval in an interview from Red Bluff.  Action News Now
  • After a meeting on November 20, the Chico Unified School District board considered a pay raise for its members as Board President Tom Lando said a new state law allows trustees to receive (up to $2,000 per month) (pending board approval).  Action News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Twenty new firefighters from Butte County, including teams from Gridley, Chico and Oroville, completed a three-day training session on November 20th to practice using aerial ladder trucks and simulate both large commercial and residential fire scenarios—preparing them to respond to emergencies. The session was held again this year with funding from Measure H to boost public safety efforts.  Action News Now
  • The City of Chico is offering free two-hour parking on Fridays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in downtown areas from today until December 26 (this program is designed to boost local shopping and dining). Visitors in long-term zones receive two free hours and must pay for extra time after (a map of designated zones is available from the city).  Action News Now
  • The Butte County Sheriff’s Office announced that it will switch its emergency alert system to the California RAVE platform after an outage with CodeRED—residents are urged to update their emergency contacts on the Smart911 platform to get timely alerts.  Action News Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • Enloe Health in Chico earned an A grade for fall 2025 while Oroville Hospital received a D, according to The Leapfrog Group—an agency focused on hospital safety—on November 20th. The ratings provide patients with a key measure of hospital safety when choosing care.  KRCR

  • MMA fighter Logan Paul Eickhoff is training hard at his gym as he awaits a routine medical checkup - the former Shasta College graduate expects to return to fighting in the coming months.  Action News Now
