COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Community Action Agency is distributing free boxes of food — at Silver Dollar Fairgrounds in Chico this weekend — to help local residents affected by the delay in SNAP benefits from the government shutdown.  Action News Now
  • Local businesses in downtown Chico participated in the first-ever Pink Friday event on November 21 when a store owner set up colorful holiday displays (Emilio Del Carpio of Action News Now reported).  Action News Now
  • Habitat for Humanity of Butte County is accepting lot donations in Chico and Paradise to rebuild affordable housing on The Ridge after the Camp Fire—donated lots must have enough space and a flat surface, and donors may qualify for a charitable tax deduction before federal laws change.  KRCR
  • The third annual Stuff the Truck toy drive and car show will be held on Sunday in Chico — it will feature a toy collection and a car display to support a local cause.  Action News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Butte County Office of Education will host a community keynote featuring bestselling author Mark C. Perna on December 5 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Chico Masonic Family Center, where he will speak on motivating younger generations. The event is sponsored by the Butte and Glenn County Offices of Education and the Butte and Glenn CTE Career Pathways programs with additional support from California State University, Chico, and tickets are available on Eventbrite until December 3.  Action News Now
  • At the Butte County Farm Bureau building in Dayton, the 21st annual Agribee featured 19 fourth and fifth grade students competing in an agriculture-themed spelling bee that required them to both spell and define words—held at Four Corners. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Today, PG&E will raise water flows in the Poe Reach section of the North Fork of the Feather River—causing higher, faster water levels that may be dangerous for visitors.  Action News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Chico Police Department and Chico State will conduct an emergency drill on campus Monday, November 24 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.—campus access will be restricted while University Police, Butte County Sheriff’s Office, Paradise Police, Chico Fire, Enloe Medical Center paramedics, Enloe FlightCare and WellCat Health Center join to practice safety protocols for real emergencies.  Action News Now
  • Downtown Chico offers free Friday parking during the holiday season as part of a city program that began recently. The free parking will continue every Friday until the final Friday of December—helping visitors save on parking costs while they shop.  Action News Now
  • An unplanned power outage left 2,110 Chico customers without power Friday night—PG&E said repairs will restore electricity by 4:30 a.m. today.  KRCR
