  • NorCal Hope United (Chico-based) seeks gift donations to support local families in need this Christmas season. The campaign invites community members to contribute presents and brighten the holidays for those facing hardship.  Action News Now
  • The City of Chico is hosting a three-day open-house at 166 East 2nd St from Monday, Dec. 8 through Wednesday, Dec. 10 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.—inviting residents and business owners to shape the Downtown Chico Revitalization Project aimed at modernizing public spaces.  Action News Now
  • The annual parade in Paradise will begin at Thomas Ace Hardware on Pearson Road as Basin Enterprises lends support to help the community gear up for a lively celebration.  Action News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Edgard Jara, a first-generation college student and father, is a computer science senior at Chico State after overcoming work setbacks and personal challenges. He recently earned a paid research position working on a poacher detection model drawing on his heritage and passion for the environment.  Chico State Today

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Chico officials say efforts by city staff and the Jesus Center have reduced the unhoused population at the alternative campsite on Eaton and Cohasset roads, with a support trailer installed Dec. 3 allowing daily presence. City Manager Mark Sorensen expects six encampments to remain in the next few weeks.  KRCR
  • Rep. Doug LaMalfa and three lawmakers sent a letter on Dec. 4 to House leadership to reauthorize the Secure Rural Schools Act, which would boost funding for rural schools in Hayfork.  Action News Now
