  • Children in Chico can now send their wish lists to Santa via the new North Pole Direct Mailbox—set up by the Chico Area Recreation and Park District at the CARD office—and families are invited to drop off their letters.  Action News Now
  • Paradise will host its annual Christmas Lighted Truck Parade this weekend as Santa Claus joins festive events and road closures are expected along The Ridge. Organizers predict turnout similar to last year with over 150 trucks participating.  Action News Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • The third annual Butte Film Festival will showcase student films today at Meriam Park Barn in Chico with five hours of screenings. The event expands its scope from Butte County to include 35 submissions from Northern California, boosting interest & rising ticket sales for young filmmakers.  KRCR
  • The enchanting performance of A Very Chico Nutcracker began on Dec. 5 at Chico State's Laxson Auditorium, featuring the Chico Community Ballet (with local anchor Linda Watkins-Bennett as town dressmaker).  Action News Now

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Department of Water Resources paused winter paving and sealing work — reopening the Brad Freeman Trail for public use at Thermalito's Afterbay. The trail is now available for local visitors to enjoy outdoors.  Action News Now
  • The Shasta-Trinity National Forest issued an order on Dec. 5 to fight invasive mussels at five lakes. The plan targets golden mussels & zebra mussels to reduce the spread of these species.  Action News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A water line break closed Lake Oroville's public restrooms yesterday, and the department is delivering portable units to serve visitors until repairs are complete.  Action News Now
  • Motorists on Highway 32 near Orland will experience delays as the new 4-way traffic signal installation—expected to go live this week—is now on hold.  Action News Now

  • Local high school football teams battled in the CIF playoffs on Friday night as Action News Now sports director Matthew Kerr Wilson reported on the matchups in Chico.  Action News Now
