  • Supporters of Bidwell Mansion have decorated the burned property fence with holiday garlands found in storage to revive a cherished local tradition. The visitors center (Dec. 11) will reopen to update the public on recovery efforts while the general store sells ornaments to support future projects.  KRCR

CULTURE NEWS

  • MONCA hosts the Chico Community Gingerbread House Contest & Showcase from Dec. 5 to Dec. 19, with a People’s Choice vote offering a $5 Chico Ice Rink coupon. Local judges will announce winners at a Dec. 20 celebration + participants can pick up their houses at the closing reception.  Action News Now
  • Local filmmaker Dustin Vaught will lead the final Chico Haunted Tours on Thursday, Dec. 11. The 90-minute walk will explore eerie downtown lore while raising funds for saving the El Rey Theater — a local effort that books all tours in advance.  North State Public Radio

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Chico State's Senior Capstone Design Expo (featuring 55 student projects) runs Friday, Dec. 12, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Colusa 100, where students will display projects including a low-cost drone payload and a robotic end effector for chores.  Action News Now

  • The City of Chico is inviting residents to share feedback at its three-day open house for the Downtown Revitalization Project — Monday’s session ended, and the event continues today and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. along Main Street and Broadway between First Street and Humboldt Road.  Action News Now
