  • The PG&E Foundation donated over $38,000 this holiday season to support food banks and senior meal programs across Northstate.  KRCR
  • Thursday afternoon, community members will gather at the Bidwell Mansion Visitor Center on The Esplanade to remember the fire's one-year anniversary — the center’s first reopening since the blaze — and to welcome holiday shopping and exhibits while State Parks plans community input in January on the mansion's future.  Action News Now
  • Allies Pub in downtown Chico will mark its first year as a nonprofit on Jan. 1 & it offers a limited membership program that provides discounts and event input while hosting live music four nights a week and various lectures to connect the community.  Action News Now
  • Chico Area Recreation & Park District hosts a Polar Express night at the Chico Ice Rink on Thursday, Dec. 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. Guests can skate, sip hot chocolate, enjoy music by Aidan Littrell and ride a train; tickets cost $12 online, $15 at the door (treats available).  Action News Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • Circus Osorio will perform at the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds this weekend after members previewed the show on Dec. 10 during an interview with Action News Now, offering a lively experience for local viewers.  Action News Now

  • Chico State will lower its university flag (today) to honor late biological sciences major Alexandra Wynter, who passed away on Dec. 3 and was admired for her academic excellence and community service. Her legacy lives on among friends, family, and colleagues across campus.  Chico State Today
  • A new consortium plans to build the first medical school north of Sacramento — the project is expected to boost local healthcare training and foster regional collaboration, with more details on the site and timeline coming soon.  Action News Now
  • Chico State earned 1st Place for fixing 29,946 accessibility issues today during Fix Your Content Day 2025 as students+staff+faculty used targeted alt text fixes in Canvas. The university is preparing for federal Title II rules starting in April.  Chico State Today

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On Tuesday, crews from the Plumas National Forest carried out prescribed burns on around 100 acres at Sawmill Peak (east of Magalia) to improve forest health.  Action News Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • Butte County Public Health received a $300,330 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety to improve child car seat safety by training technicians and teaching proper use. The grant supports one-on-one car seat inspections + free car seat classes for families until Sept. 30, 2026.  Action News Now
  • Butte County Public Health announced yesterday that tests no longer detect the dangerous E. coli O157 strain in Big Chico Creek and lifted its no-swim advisory, though the source remains unknown—officials will continue monitoring water safety with local partners.  North State Public Radio
  • The Butte County Public Health Department has received a $165,113 grant to expand bike and pedestrian safety education in the area. The funding will support programs such as on-bicycle training and defensive walking lessons from Oct. 1 through Sept. 30, 2026.  Action News Now
