- ➤ Activist Claire Fong will host her Winter Solstice Clothing Swap at Chico Women’s Club on Sunday, Dec. 21 at 10:30 a.m. The event donates clothing for Safe Space Winter Shelter and boosts sustainability and community connections (Fong has organized similar events for over 20 years). - ➤ Chico residents have a weekend full of local events from provocative cabaret at Mulberry Music Station Brewpub and a live ballet of The Nutcracker at Shasta College Theater to festive music at The Barn Presents Mistletones + a fundraiser show on Main and a community swap at the local marketplace. - ➤ Doug and Olivia Kelly lit up their home on Windham Way with festive holiday displays + shared a video showing their dazzling decorations in Chico on Dec. 18. Action News Now
- ➤ HGTV revived Castle Impossible on Dec. 18 with Grass Valley couple Daphne and Ian Fig as they renovated a 500-year-old French chateau inherited from Daphne’s grandfather. The series spotlights innovative design on a historic property. Action News Now
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Drivers at the Feather Falls Casino gas station in Oroville saw gas priced at $2.89 per gallon this week (due to tribal exemptions) while a nearby Chico station sold fuel at $3.49; AAA and the U.S. Energy Information Administration expect prices to remain low into early 2026. Action News Now
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A new cell tower is planned on Keefer Road in North Chico after the county Board approved a deal with Verizon to improve coverage near the future fire station. Verizon will rent a 6-acre county lot for $18,000 per year (with a 3% annual increase) while construction details remain pending. Action News Now
